Fertility Fest, the only arts festival devoted entirely to the subjects of modern families and the science of making babies, is presented in association with the Barbican from 23 April – 18 May 2019 as part of the Barbican’s season, Life Rewired, which explores what it means to be human when technology is changing everything.
Fertility and infertility take centre stage in this four-week international programme of performance and panel discussions bringing together leading artists, fertility specialists, patients, and audiences to explore what it means to make (and sometimes not make) babies in the 21st century.
Jointly founded by influential activist Jessica Hepburn and theatre producer Gabby Vautier, Fertility Fest is a rare, open and collaborative platform that aims to drive social change, improving the emotional care of patients – whatever their outcome – as well as fertility education for young people.
Offering a multitude of views and voices, Fertility Fest will ask key questions about fertility science and education in 2019 and beyond through a diverse programme of theatre, film, visual arts, literature, workshops and debate, including the world premiere of Avalanche: A Love Story, a new international theatre production based on Australian writer, Julia Leigh’s acclaimed IVF memoir.
