Chiswick House and Gardens invites visitors to create their own unique herbal tea bags this summer. Visitors are encouraged to choose and blend their own individually crafted tea bags from a range of organic herbs and plans grown by the Chiswick House gardeners and volunteers.
This scheme encourages people of all ages to learn about the healing properties of plants through mixing the diverse flavours to create a perfect blend. The selection includes familiar options like chamomile, spearmint, and peppermint, as well as more unusual flavors such as sage, horsetail, and lemon verbena. Participants can explore different infusions, including stress-reducing blends with lavender and passionflower, immunity-boosting mixes with sage, nettle, and calendula, digestive aids like mint and fennel, and energy-boosting options with monarda and tulsi.
The scheme also aims to educate visitors about sustainable, organic growing practices used by the Kitchen Garden team. Additionally, it emphasizes environmentally friendly tea drinking. Unlike some mass-produced paper tea bags that contain non-biodegradable plastic, the Chiswick House tea bags are made entirely of paper and are fully biodegradable.
The 17th-century walled Kitchen Garden, once neglected, has been revitalized into a thriving space for growing flowers, fruit, and vegetables with half of the produce going to local food banks and community groups.
Chiswick House & Gardens, a 350-year-old haven in West London is open for everyone, every day and relies on visitor and supporter funding to continue its mission. Teeming with nature, stories and activities, these spectacular Grade I listed gardens are completely free to roam, so if you’re in the area, don’t miss the chance to create your own tea blend and explore the beautiful Chiswick House grounds!
The ‘create your own tea bag’ scheme will run in the Chiswick House Kitchen Gardens each Friday, during the Kitchen Garden’s opening hours (10.30am to 3.30pm), beginning on Friday July 5th. There is no charge for the herbs, plants or tea bag and visitors will be restricted to one tea bag per person.
