London Games Festival: family friendly activities and events this April

YoungLondonist have pulled together all the top activities for young people to enjoy at #LGF19 - including FREE events for the whole family whatever their ages.

The London Games Festival, a joint initiative between Film London, UKIE and Games London, and funded by the Mayor of London, is a celebratory showcase of the country’s interactive entertainment industry.

The Festival, now in its fourth year runs from 2nd-14th April in venues across the capital and offers something for everyone, whether you’re a fan of gaming, work in gaming or want an insight into the culture of gaming.

The 12-day showcase features over 40 events and looks set to beat last year’s attendance of over 50,000.

Cosplay Parade and Family Day

The Cosplay Parade and Family Day on Saturday 6 April is a FREE event in Guildhall, City of London featuring giant outdoor retro games, costume making crafts in Guildhall Art Gallery, a digital-to-physical knitting game and virtual reality in the ancient Amphitheatre – plus their famous Costume Parade. Get involved at Trafalgar Square

Trafalgar Square is buzzing with FREE activities on Saturday 13 April, including a chance to play games competitively against the pros, fun photo opportunities and more interactive fun in the heart of London.

Ensemble: An Exhibition

Interested in working in games? On Monday 8 April (4pm-7pm) a FREE event in Walthamstow, London Borough of Culture brings together past and present stars of Ensemble: an exhibition highlighting BAME games talent. See the exhibition and find out how to get a job in games – ideal for families and educational groups. Full details can be found via this link.

Now Play This

From 6-14 April, Now Play This at Somerset House exhibits alternative and unusual games for the whole family. Expect everything from quiet reflections you can sit with, to colourful installations that get people playing together. You can purchase tickets here.

EGX Rezzed

For games fans, EGX Rezzed returns to Tobacco Dock from 4-6 April, with all the latest PC and console games to try out. They will also be holding developer sessions, meet the creators, as well as a  unique careers & education area which will allow you to get up close and personal to the game developers, educators and publishers that can give you the advice you need to make games development your career.
