British Library family day: Words as Art Saturday 20 July 2019

Explore the wonderful world of letters, fonts and styles. Transform words into art as you screen print a poster, build sculptures made of words and try Japanese calligraphy. Experiment with writing tools of all shapes and sizes.

The British Library are running a family day in conjunction with The Place. Young Londoners and their families can take part in a fun-filled family day inspired by the current exhibition; Writing: Making Your Mark.

Enjoy writing-inspired dance performances in partnership with The Place, the UK’s premiere centre for contemporary dance. Or join a curator to listen to the secrets and stories behind the making of the exhibition.

Younger audiences can explore the mythical origins of writing in the musical storytelling sessions and you can end the day curled up in the British Library’s family reading corner and sensory room.

The day includes a complimentary visit to Writing: Making Your Mark. BSL interpretation, braille and tactile books are available throughout the day. Drop in, artist-led workshops happen throughout the event and you can attend any of these with your event ticket. When you select Book Now you will be asked to book a time slot to visit the exhibition as part of your event booking.  This slot cannot be changed once it is booked.
