Dougie Poynter launches Plastic Sucks! Degree at Kidzania London

Tying in with the launch of his new book, Plastic Sucks! You Can Make A Difference, McFly and McBusted bassist Dougie Poynter launched a Plastic Sucks! Degree at KidZania London on Saturday 14 September, where four to 14-year-olds learnt how to become Recycling Champions.

After enrolling in the University of KidZania, kids will discover how we, as humans, impact the environment every day, and how they can take action to make the world a better place. Encouraging learning in Environmental Science, kids will look at the correct way to recycle plastic, metal and food, and learn where this ends up. Dougie’s Plastic Sucks! Degree is included in the KidZania admission ticket, along with all of the other fun learning activities the city has to offer as part of the four-hour experience. KidZania London will continue to run the Plastic Sucks! Degree throughout September for planet-saving warriors.

On finding his inspiration for the book, Dougie says, “Conservation has been a huge part of my life since I first learnt about deforestation at school. Over the years I’ve been lucky enough to travel the world with my band and some of the sights we have seen were heart-breaking.

“After a lot of research and campaigning to get harmful products banned, I learnt that the most impactful thing we could do was educate the next generation. I really believe we can get the earth back on track. What I plan to do with the book is to debunk a lot of rumours that may be out there and offer positive solutions.

Victoria Gregory, General Manager at KidZania London, comments: “Dougie’s new book is without doubt the most inspiring, relatable book for kids around climate change. We love how it looks to empower the younger generation which is what we’re all about at KidZania, and do our bit to help inspire kids around important issues.”
