A brand-new pop-up experience launches at Carnaby this week immersing Londoners in the life of Nepalese tailors, beauticians and guesthouse owners in a bid to raise vital funds to tackle the global scourge of the illegal wildlife trade.
International conservation charity, ZSL, will take over Foubert’s Place store on Carnaby, as part of the charity’s UK Aid Match appeal – For People. For Wildlife.
Made from recycled card, the insta-worthy 2D design tells the story of the people living on the borders Nepal’s wildlife-rich national parks and how, with support from ZSL, rural communities are no longer reliant on the forest for survival and are living side-by-side with wildlife.
Celebrating the entrepreneurial spirit of these communities, the time-limited pop-up will see visitors connecting a seamstress’ sewing machine to the forest with thread and posing with Shanti the life-sized cardboard elephant, with every pound raised at the experience being matched by the UK Aid Match appeal.
Launching on October 1, the exclusive pop-up will be in place for just four weeks, ZSL will be inspiring visitors to raise funds to tackle the biggest threat to wildlife, illegal wildlife trade.
The For People. For Wildlife. appeal will enable ZSL to team up with and support more rural communities in Nepal and Kenya to set up sustainable ways to make a living, empowering them to feed their families, build independent futures and protect the wildlife they live alongside.
ZSL Director General Dominic Jermey CVO, OBE said, “With human populations growing, competition for space and resources increases, and the survival of some of the world’s most iconic wildlife hangs in the balance. Treetop homes are cut down; deer that feed the biggest predators are hunted; grasses are overgrazed; and rivers are fished bare. By supporting local communities, ZSL is changing this.
“Around the world wildlife is going extinct – if we act now we can turn the tide and stop incredible species, like tigers, elephants and rhinos from disappearing forever.
“A visit to this wonderful immersive space at Carnaby could make a real difference for wildlife. Just one donation can transform the future, for people and for wildlife. Your pound, which will be doubled by the Government, has never been more valuable.”
Visit ZSL’s pop up experience in Carnaby by October 31 2019 and the UK government will double all donations, up to £2million. Find out more at ZSL.org/ForPeopleForWildlife
