WIN: Swan lake afternoon tea at the Royal Opera House

How would you like to enjoy an afternoon tea at the Royal Opera House? Enter our competition and this could be you in March.

In celebration of Swan Lake returning to the stage, the Royal Opera House is once again taking the magic of the ballet from the stage to the table with its latest ballet-inspired afternoon tea and we are giving one lucky family the opportunity to sample this cultural culinary feast.

The Swan Lake afternoon tea will run Thursdays-Saturdays from 12th March – 18th April 2020* and will serve an assortment of savoury and sweet treats for both adults and children, inspired by Tchaikovsky’s classic ballet, from inside the fifth floor Piazza restaurant that looks over Covent Garden.

The afternoon tea will also feature live performances by a Royal Ballet pianist.

The opening act will feature a selection of savouries that showcase the best of the season’s flavours, such as Glazed Gammon, Grain Mustard Butter and Pickled Gherkin on Granary Bread and Severn and Wye Smoked Salmon Pin Wheel on Pumpernickel Bread. After an intermission of Warm Scones with Jam and Clotted Cream, the spotlight will then fall on a range of sweets that are inspired by Swan Lake’s infamous characters. The offering will include a White Swan Macaron with Chocolate Wings and a Black Swan Currant and Cassis Cheesecake, with the addition of Hazelnut and Toasted Marshmallow Choux Puffs for adults and Lemon and Toasted Marshmallow Choux Puffs for children.

The Swan Lake afternoon tea will also cater for a variety of different dietary requirements, including gluten-free, nut-free, dairy-free, vegan and vegetarian menus. The vegetarian and vegan editions feature Roast Onion Squash, Chestnut and Sage on Pumpernickel and Carrot, Coriander and Hummus on Granary Bread, while the dairy-free tea pairs the Warm Scones with Coconut Cream and includes an additional delicious range of desserts including Choux Puff Swans with Crème Diplomat and a Lemon Curd Cake with Crumble Topping.

Guests can also opt to add a Swan Lake-inspired cocktail to the magical line up. The cocktail list includes enchanting tipples such as Odette (lychee juice mixed with coconut syrup and topped with Rivani Prosecco, £12), Von Rothbart (a vesper martini made with Belvedere gin and red vermouth, £14.50) and Birthday Ball (Cognac and aromatic bitters soaked into a sugar cube and topped with Ruinart Champagne, £16). A non-alcoholic cocktail will also be available and is named after Odette’s alter ego, Odile (freshly pressed grape juice, blueberry purée and bitter lemon, topped with Fever Tree lemonade, £6).

The curtain raises for the Royal Opera House’s Swan Lake afternoon tea on 12th March and prices are from £45 per adult and £27 per child. There will also be a live pianist performing throughout the afternoon tea sittings.
