The Place Family Dance Day is back on 17th July 2021

With family friendly shows and activities taking over Coram’s Field for The Place’s popular Family Dance Day and a Playground Tour of Camden primary schools, summer 2021 will be a summer of dance.

On Saturday 17th of July you can expect a series of interactive dance themed activities at Coram’s Fields. The popular Family Dance Day brings entertaining dance performances, creative workshops and unexpected surprises specifically programmed for children (aged 0-8 years) and their grownups. Have a read below of what you can expect on the day.

Drag Queen Story Time – ShayShay

Join the fabulous ShayShay in this interactive story time session! Watch, listen and join in
the action as they read their favourite children’s stories all about defying gender
stereotypes! From 11am – 11.30am & 2.45pm – 3.15pm

PLI – Viktor Černický

PLI is an unpredictable and playful show that sees one performer turn 22 chairs into
incredible pieces of architecture. Through patience, determination and creative
construction, ordinary objects suddenly become extraordinary! From 12.15pm – 12.45pm

The Album – Sarah Golding & Yukiko Masui

Dancers Sarah and Yukiko celebrate the fun and innocence of making up dances to
popular music. Combining contemporary and street dance styles this joyful performance will
delight and is sure to inspire young audiences to get creative with movement themselves! From 1pm – 1.30pm & 3.15pm – 3.45pm

Creature Comforts – Feet Off The Ground

Flynn feels at home on her phone, in fact, so does everyone around her… but when a
mysterious four-legged creature appears, she leaves behind her creature comforts and
enters a world full of technicolour, fun and magic! Feet off the Ground celebrate the power
of play, friendship and imagination. From 1.30pm – 2pm & 4pm – 4.30pm

Sun Dials Creative Movement workshop

Create your own sun dial artwork using some chalk, your shadow and your moves! This
workshop is for a small people and their grown ups as one will create the moves whilst the
other draws round their shadow! From 11.45am – 12.15pm & 2.15pm – 2.45pm

Desert Island Dance – Interactive Playground

Choose your journey! What will you take with you to your dream desert island?! Hop
between palm tree to parrot, and wiggle from sun cream to sun lounger on this interactive
playground designed by illustrator extraordinaire Lizzie King. From 11am – 4.30pm


The Place is passionate about giving children access to fantastic performance experiences and they’ve announced a variety of dance activities and shows this summer across schools, playgrounds and outdoors festivals to make sure family fun is still on the cards after a challenging time for children, families and teachers. The Place will also make an appearance at Somers Town Festival, Camden’s largest street festival, on Sat 7 Aug and on Sat 4 Sep at Talacre Sport Centre in Kentish Town.
