Calling all young writers with a passion for change! The National Literacy Trust, in collaboration with the acclaimed stage musical Wicked, is thrilled to announce the launch of the second annual Wicked Writers: Be the Change competition. Designed to ignite creativity and inspire positive action, this writing competition encourages school children across the UK to raise their voices and advocate for environmental change.

Writing for a Purpose
With themes inspired by the iconic song “For Good” from the beloved musical Wicked, this year’s competition challenges students aged 9 to 14 to write stories about the positive environmental changes they wish to see. From reducing single-use plastics to promoting wildlife conservation, the possibilities for change are endless.
Guidance from the Pros
Joining the esteemed judging panel this year is bestselling author M. G. Leonard, known for her captivating stories like “Beetle Boy” and her dedication to environmental activism through Authors4Oceans. M. G. Leonard brings her wealth of knowledge and passion for storytelling to inspire young writers on their creative journey.
Transformative Impact
Research from the National Literacy Trust underscores the profound impact of writing competitions on children’s engagement with literacy. By fostering a love for writing and providing a platform for expression, initiatives like Wicked Writers empower children to become confident communicators and advocates for change.
