With captivating performances like “The Storm Whale” and “Everything Has Changed,” as well as creative themed workshops, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Polka Theatre, one of the UK’s few dedicated children’s venues, reopened in 2021 after a major renovation. With two performance spaces—the 300-seat Main Theatre and the 90-seat Adventure Theatre—Polka offers a year-round programme of shows and creative learning activities for children aged 0-12. Last year alone, over 21,000 children participated in Polka’s workshops and shows, and the theatre distributed over 6,000 free tickets to schools through its Curtain Up! scheme.

The Storm Whale: A Heartwarming Tale of Friendship and Courage

Running from October 25th to November 3rd in the Main Theatre, “The Storm Whale” brings Benji Davies’ beloved, award-winning book to life. Follow the story of Noi, a young boy living by the sea with his dad and six cats, whose life is transformed when he rescues a stranded whale. Produced by Engine House, York Theatre Royal, Little Angel Theatre, and The Marlowe, this beautiful puppetry performance is recommended for ages 4 to 8 and explores themes of loneliness, love, and courage.
Everything Has Changed: A Joyful Exploration of Change

“Everything Has Changed,” created by the award-winning Rhum + Clay theatre company, is a dynamic and physical family show that reflects on the upheavals of recent years. Running from October 30th to November 3rd in the Adventure Theatre, this show is a fast-paced exploration of why change happens and how to embrace it. Aimed at children aged 6 to 12, it offers a joyful way for young audiences to consider their own experiences of change and look forward to the future with hope.
