A recent study by Away Resorts, a leading UK holiday park provider, has crowned Monopoly as the nation’s all-time favourite board game. Released just ahead of National Monopoly Day on November 19th, this study surveyed 2,000 UK adults to uncover the most loved games, the ones best for family harmony, and the best picks for various gaming groups.
Monopoly takes the crown
Monopoly is the undisputed champion, with 55% of UK adults choosing it as their favourite. Its enduring appeal spans all generations, bolstered by regional editions that spotlight local landmarks, like Sandy Balls in Hampshire and Barmouth Bay in North Wales. Alongside Monopoly, classics such as Scrabble and Trivial Pursuit also top the charts, reflecting the UK’s preference for nostalgic, longer-play games.
Stress-free gaming: Jenga comes out on top
For families seeking peace this Christmas, Jenga emerged as the least tension-inducing game. Unlike Monopoly, which can stir competitive spirits, Jenga is perfect for fostering laughter and lighthearted fun.

Why board games matter
Melody Munday, Head of Entertainment at Away Resorts, remarked, “Board games bring back a sense of nostalgia and tradition, especially during Christmas and family get-togethers. They create cherished memories—and occasionally a little tension too!”
With almost half (49%) of participants admitting that board games often lead to arguments, the study provides valuable insights into selecting games that keep the peace while maximizing the fun.
