If you are looking for ideas for an unusual date night, then we recommend the brand new musical comedy Rosie’s Brain by Evelyn Rose, which plays at The Hope Theatre (part of Hope and Anchor pub in Islington) for only five performances this February.
This heart warming one-woman musical comedy is written, composed, produced and performed by Evelyn Rose and it tells the story of a young woman who battles anxiety and OCD. The show is fast paced, packed with smart dialogue and humour that brings out into the open the complexities of her own mind as she navigates through the challenges of everyday life, relationships and self-discovery.
The internal monologue is brought to life here by Evelyn Rose’s sharp wit and dialogue, mixing humour with vulnerability as she moves the characters through a series of hilariously awkward situations, all while exploring deeper themes of identity, mental health, and personal growth.
“They just thought I was eccentric – but that wasn’t all there was to it.”
Evelyn Rose
The subjects at the core of this show are complex, of course, but Evelyn Rose’s excellent performance and the catchy short musical interludes ensures there is a lovely balance between the lighthearted moments and the seriously awkward, often neurotic, situations, ensuring that the comedy never feels shallow.
This 70 minute one-woman show could certainly be transformed into a full musical comedy with a cast of characters playing Rosie’s mother, string of therapists and first boyfriend. Evelyn Rose is a name to watch.
Rosie’s Brain is running just for 5 performances between 4 to 8 February at The Hope Theatre in London. The show is best suited to an adult audience aged 18 and over. All information and booking is available on the theatre website.
