A Brief Case of Crazy: Heartwarming Comedy at Riverside Studios

This endearing comedy stole the hearts of audiences at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2024, and now the funny trio (Samuel Cunningham, Lennie Longworth – and Rowan Armitt-Brewster) are sure to win over London theatregoers too.

Samuel Cunningham, Lennie Longworth – and Rowan Armitt-Brewster. A Brief Case of Crazy. Riverside Studios

Playing at the Riverside Studios until 20 April, this hilarious physical comedy tells the story of an awkward introvert (Thomas) determined to find love and happiness with his equally shy and socially clumsy colleague, Daisy. To complicate matters, their fancy boss, Simon, is also on a quest to impress Daisy.

During the one hour show, this boisterous trio do a great job to engage and entertain the audience through their enthusiastic energy, dance, object manipulation, puppetry and mime. Drawing inspiration from physical comedy classics like Mr Bean, Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton, our characters are hilarious, likeable and also original.

The narrative moves really well through series of short scenes, carefully selected music and dance routines and also props that are carefully manipulated by the actors creating a seamless and enjoyable feel of being part of this romantic comedy. There are many funny situations that come out of the characters as they interact but this play also explores what it is to deal with challenges, to find courage and friendship and never judge anyone without knowing their story.

And there is also the briefcase and its stubborn ways, dragging Thomas through a series of bizarre events that challenge and overwhelm his social anxiety. Would he succeed to follow his heart and let Daisy know about his feelings?

This production is for those who enjoy the classics of physical comedy, and for families looking for an uplifting and inspiring story about overcoming our fears. We thoroughly enjoyed it and certainly looking forward to see more from Skedaddle Theatre Company.

A Brief Case of Crazy is at Riverside Studios until 20 April with day and evening performances. Recommended age 5+. Tickets from £13. Full information and booking available on the website.
