Togas, tunes, and total chaos: Polka Theatre brings the Gods to Wimbledon

What happens when a Greek constellation crash-lands in a dungheap? Polka Theatre reveals all in the highly anticipated musical adaptation of Maz Evans’s beloved bestseller, Who Let The Gods Out.

If your life feels “suboptimal,” spare a thought for Elliot Hooper. Between a sick mum, a posh neighbour trying to steal his home, and the accidental release of an evil death daemon, he’s having a bit of a week. Luckily for Elliot—and for families across London—help is on the way in the form of some very epic and very musical Greek Gods.

The brand-new stage musical, Who Let The Gods Out, is set to transform the the Polka Theatre (and a big part of London) into a mythological playground, right on time for the February half-term.

From page to stage

The production isn’t just an adaptation; it is a homecoming. The book and lyrics are penned by the series’ own bestselling author, Maz Evans. Having already conquered the literary world with over 50 award nominations and 18 books, Evans is now bringing her signature wit to the stage alongside the talented musical composer Luke Bateman (Oi Frog!).

““The book is SO loved by children across the country! It will wow audiences and get them out of their seats dancing along and laughing… it’s going to be epic!”Helen Matravers, Artistic Director

An “epic” ensemble

To bring the heavens down to earth, Polka has assembled a powerhouse cast:

  • Andy Owens stars as the beleaguered ‘Elliot’.
  • Nadia Wyn Abouayen takes on the role of the crash-landed constellation, ‘Virgo’.
  • Jazz Evans pulls double duty as the mighty ‘Zeus’ and the chilling ‘Thanatos’.
  • Stephan Boyce brings the speed as ‘Hermes’.
  • Harriet O’Grady rounds out the chaos as the formidable ‘Patricia Porshley Plum’.

Directed by Ria Parry, the show promises to be a high-energy spectacle that balances belly laughs with a heartfelt quest. Can Elliot save the world? More importantly, can he save his world?

More than just a show

For those who want to dive deeper into the mind behind the myth, Polka is offering an exclusive Q&A with Maz Evans following the 2:30 pm performances on Wednesday 18th and Thursday 19th February. It’s a rare chance for young readers and aspiring writers to meet the creator of the world they’ve come to love.
