My son loves trains. A trip anywhere is complete with a train ride. So I am quite excited to see whether London’s leading model railway show – which attracts over 9,000 visitors annually and showcases over 40 huge working train sets – will be up his track.
This year’s London Festival of Railway Modelling takes place on 23rd and 24th of March at Alexandra Palace gives you the chance to meet some of the stars of model-based TV programmes.
Some of the entertainment this event promises includes the Missenden Modellers group with their layout ‘Ealing Road’ and Daventry MRC with Dr Who: The Imperial Dalek War from Channel 5’s Great Model Railway Challenge.
Then Colin and his crew, last seen on the James May Hornby documentary can be found on the Double O Gauge Association stand where I’m sure they will be happy to chat to everyone.
- There will be a dedicated children’s area for:
- Kits to make and take home – Materials kindly supplied by Dapol, Metcalfe & Eileen’s Emporium
- A colouring competition and a layout quiz with prizes from Hornby.
- Whilst you’re at the show make sure you inspire your little ones with the best views of everything the show has to offer, hire them a step stool and encourage them to let their imaginations run wild!
Alexandra Palace offers free parking and a free shuttle bus running for those coming from Wood Green Underground station.
Adult entry on the door is £12.00, Child (5-16) £6, and Family (2 adults, 3 children) £36.00. The show is open from 10am – 5pm on Saturday, and 10am – 4.30pm on Sunday. More information and tickets can be found here.
