And this summer ZSL London Zoo is inviting children behind the scenes to celebrate the launch of its new Animal Adventure play-zone with Zoo it Yourself, a free, fun-packed role-playing experience for junior animal lovers.
From Wednesday 24 July to Sunday 1 September 2019 kids on summer hols will be transformed into builders, zookeepers, gardeners and vets as part of the new interactive experience – discovering exactly what goes into creating the perfect home for the Zoo’s furry, feathery and four-legged residents.
After arriving for work, new recruits will be kitted out in uniform and given their daily task lists, before being taken to the heart of the action – in the specially-recreated keeper kitchen, workshop and potting shed. Riding on mini diggers, young engineers will be able to show their creative side in planning and building the perfect home for a porcupine, before potting up the ideal plants for the spiky residents to sniff, snack on and roll around in.
Next, the Zoo’s expert vets will need support from young nurses to carry out health checks on new meerkat arrivals, before keepers enlist their help in preparing a hearty lunch for the coatis – roleplaying a real day in the life of ZSL’s expert teams.
Once the uniforms come off, kids can venture into the Zoo’s new Animal Adventure children’s zoo and play-zone, launching on 31 July, before exploring the rest of ZSL London Zoo – home to more than 19,000 animals in the heart of the capital.
