London Wildlife Festival is a new and exciting urban event celebrating the conservation and culture of wildlife in the city. Curated by London Wildlife Trust and David Lindo, The Urban Birder, the event will be held across the weekend of 9th-11th August 2019, at Europe’s largest urban wetlands, Walthamstow Wetlands, 15 minutes by tube from central London.
At a time when so much of the environment around us is under threat, London Wildlife Festival hopes to bring the very importance of the natural world in the modern day to the forefront of conversation and thought. With capacity for 2,000 visitors each day, London Wildlife Festival will unite specialists in the field with visitors alike to celebrate the importance of urban wildlife, and share the actions dedicated to conserve it.
This will be a vibrant event aimed at a young, diverse, urban and non-specialist audience as well, not just wildlife experts. Visitors can learn about the issues facing the natural world and explore first-hand some of the wildlife great and small living inside London. There will be guided walks; workshops, talks and debates including celebrity conservation experts and passionate citizen scientists speaking about everything from parakeets and wild weeds to living plastic free lives.
There will be yoga, mindfulness and wellbeing workshops as well as an opportunity to learn new crafts such as wildlife photography, birding, pottery, floristry, landscape drawing and creative writing. There will be art exhibitions for all ages, live music, literary events and film screenings all inspired by nature. There will also be a range of exhibitors including wildlife NGOs, ecotour operators, bird food providers, outdoor clothing, books, optics and cameras; together with family activities, food and drink.

Visitors can dip in and out of talks, shop at the various stalls, take part in activities and enjoy the sights and sounds of London’s largest wetland nature reserve. The festival will be a unique opportunity to marry the urban and rural, to connect city dwellers and wildlife enthusiasts, and to inspire and intrigue all those that walk through the gates.
Whether you are an avid naturalist or just curious to discover more, London Wildlife Festival will be an opportunity for families to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of the big city and get back in touch with nature. Visitors can also meet like-minded individuals and connect with like-minded brands over the festival which organisers hope to make an annual affair.

We all need nature in our lives and now is a time more important than ever to rally together to protect what we believe in. Whether you are looking for a fun family day out in the summer holidays or you are in search of something different to do for the day, look no further than the London Wildlife Festival.
